Moving on from Hakata - Beppu

We spent a full day at Hakata and to us we think that is enough and sufficient. hence, we proceed on to Onsen town Beppu. Really looking forward to Onsen and the famous "Hell of Beppu"

Train are nostalgic, loved it!

They don't call in Onsen town for nothing, this area is for soaking your hands in the onsen water. located just right outside the train station.

Accommodations in Beppu are not cheap, hence we decided on staying over at the hostel called "Khao San-Beppu". We got ourselves a two bedded dorm room with private ensuite. Not too bed, but toilet is not something to shout about. The hostel also has its own onsen which is not too bad.

Above are the roads leading to the hostel, my husband love taking photos of the old buildings.

Rooms look good right? We even bought a bottle of Sake just to enjoy at the balcony.

After we settle down at the hostel, it is time to continue our tour of Beppu.
The "Hell Of Beppu"

How to get to Beppu Hell? We took a bus #43.

The bus departs at JR Beppu Station and bus fare is paid before you get off the bus. There is a fare chart on the bus. It will indicate how much you need to pay when u are alighting.

There are a total of 8 hells for you to visit but unless you are really a fan of it i would't purchase the combi ticket which cost 2000yen. For more information on the Hell if you really need, http://wikitravel.org/en/Beppu.

We only choose 1 of the 8 to visit as we had to pay 400 yen each and we did not want to visit all 8. Thus, the most worth it and most visited Umi-Jigoku- Sea Hell.

Nobody has mention that it was a small pond. Its really not that big, one can easily just take a glance and be done with it. We were a little taken aback as were hoping that it was a lot bigger. We actually planned to visit a few but after visiting this we change our mind. Not because we don't think that its nice but we thought the ticket price is a little steep for something like that. Anyway, it is nice and amazing to see this nature phenomenon. In its surrounding area it comes with a Japanese garden with gigantic lotus leaf in a green room, leg bath and a temple.

Oh yes, if you are going on a trip to the Hell, do pack lunch as one can get pretty hungry and there are not much options available. We got bentos to go at one of the bento shop located near the train station.

The place where we got our bento sets, you point to your choice and they cooked and pack it up for you! Perfect for picnic!

Nobody seems to know that there is a leg bath here and it is inclusive in your ticket! Do bring a small towel to wipe your leg.

The start of the temple route, its just a short walk and nothing much.

There are many Onsen available at Beppu, as i have mention some are even free for eg the hand and foot bath at the train station and Hell. But places like even my hostel have free football outside the hostel for the public. But if you really want to vist the Onsen, try the one above. It is the oldest public bath in Beppu. Try it to have a look at its architecture. Its very affordable too.

Oh yes, and if you are wondering why we didn't do the famous Beppu Beach Sand Bath? Well, it was summer and really hot in Kyushu. Even being in the onsen can be really hot and a challenge. Hence, you pay about 1000yen for 10 mins...hmmm...
