Our Kyushu Trip in May 2012

We love the excitement of traveling on our own, and my husband love the challenge of planning the trip. Hence, during one of our impromptu trip to Japan for a week because of a good deal on the flight to OSAKA my hubby planned a 7 day Kyushu trip.

The start of our trip in Kyushu - Hakata Station.

Hakata

Our hotel located directly outside the Hakata Station, great location and convenience. We stayed at Hakata Miyako Hotel. Very nice and lovely hotel, hotel rooms in Japan are always of limited size but comfortable. http://www.miyakohotels.ne.jp/hakata/english/

One good thing about staying near the station is traveling make simple and the abundance of restaurant, shops and food. One do not have to worry about getting hungry. After we check in to the hotel, we went searching for breakfast.

And finally, settled for traditional Japanese breakfast . Selection of either Saba or Salmon set for 500yen and rice and miso soup are free flow.

As we were only staying here for a night, we proceed on for sightseeing immediately.

Lunch was settle at one of the attractions Canal City Hakata, a futuristic city that still look futuristic today even though its a liitle old. Shops are plentiful, for those who love shopping you can check out this place. But nothing attracts us. There is a Ramen stadium located at the top floor of the mall, and the options are massive.

Ramen Stadium is packed with Japanese and the restaurants have really long queues. It was really difficult trying to select which restaurant to go too. And just like any Japanese fast food outlet, we just had to select the type of ramen and side dish, make payment at the vending machine and you will have your food delivery to you.

The coolest thing i think they have is the option to have another portion of noodle should it not fill your stomach. U let them now that u need another portion, they cook the noodle and when it is ready they will just throw the noodles into your soup.

Definitely yummy, do visit the Ramen Stadium for a meal if you happen to be around the area. Noodles are reasonably price between 500- 1000 yen.

Every time we are in Japan, we always rave about Japan's 7-eleven store/ Convenience Store they have everything that you need in the store. Seriously, if you are a backpacker it is your paradise! Yummy bento sets that are sizable and affordable. The bento sets are even better than what you can find in some restaurant back home! Value for money!

Sushi and bentos on sale. Bento sets are priced between 250-600 yen and sushi like my favorite onigiri are priced from 98-120 yen! really good for breakfast on the go! Oh yes, and if you come in the evening bentos are cheaper.

Look at the assortment of instant noodles available!

Bread and Buns are seriously tasty, we feel that they are better than the bakery back home.

Oh! And the type of biiru available....oh so many and yummy. Our favorite - Asahi, some how it just taste better than back home. price range from 150-350yen.

With our stomach filled with yummy ramen and biiru, we proceed on to see another famous landmark of Kyushu- The Yahoo Dome, Home to Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks Baseball Team. We are not baseball fans but it so happen that the dome is also located at Momochi Beach. Its an artificial brach but still a nice place to visit with the Fukuoka Tower and Dome in the surroundings. We had a mini picnic there with some local beer and snack while waiting for the sunset.

With the day almost coming to an end, we wanted to end our day doing what Hakata is famous for in the night- Hakata Yatai. But sadly, there was not alot around and most of the Yatai by the Canal were cater more for tourist than locals. We could not decide on the stall and ended up with ramen again at this shops that looks really authentic and smell delicious. Nobody speak English so we just start pointing and saying ramen and they deliver one to our table.
