There are 3 levels you can choose to go, most tour groups visit the first level Spruce Meadow. So if you want to beat the crowd avoid it. We went to the second level Yak Meadow because its summer, it looks better and there are no snow at the top of the mountain so no point going all the way up. The Yak Meadow is lovely, we almost felt that we own the place as we were the only few there. No crowd no problem with pictures.

Probably one reason that it is not popular is because you need to take a mini bus to the cable car and that trip will take approximately 40 mins.

Only their local buses are allow to be driven, after the show everyone rushes to the ticket counter and wait for the correct buses to take them to their correct cable car destination. My Q was so short, unlike the Q to the spruce Meadow. We hop on to the bus and off we go, buses leave at a specified timing.

There is a pathway for you to walk around, the whole walk takes approximately about an hour. I think its advisable to bring some picnic along. It does not matter where you prefer to be having your lunch, but do bring food as you will probably spent half your day at the Jade Dragon Mountain and you are bound to be hungry. Such a lovely place, take your time to enjoy it, don't let hunger make you leave this place earlier. I didn't see any restaurant except at the base, where the show is.

Important tip: Bring your lunch

Oh yes, you come together, you leave together unless you want to wait. We had two groups on the bus, ourselves and another group. The guides were discussing what time they should meet and leave the place. The driver has informed them that they have to leave together. So, do let your guide know how long you wish to stay, don't let them make the decision for you. We stayed approximately 3 hours at the Yak Meadow.

Zhang Yimou's- Impression of Lijiang

I don't think anyone who goes to the Jade Dragon Mountain missed this show. How could you? Well, unless you have watch it before.

How much is the ticket? It is 190RMB for normal seats and 290RMB for VIP seats.

What's the diff? Not much if you ask me, VIP seats are situated in the centre and their seats are identified by reds seats and black cap. Once you paid for the tickets, you get a raincoat and a cap. Normal seats get the red cap which you could bring back while the VIP gets the black cap. The raincoat has to be returned.

During the show, which last for approximately an hour we notice that the VIP area is pretty empty and a lot of Chinese tourist tend to try to sneak into the area (it's fence up). But there are 2-3 body guards patrolling in the VIP area and they always catches those sneaking it. Well, wearing a red cap is pretty obvious that you paid the normal price. In my opinion the best seats are right in front of the VIP.

When we were there, it was really cloudy but thank god we got to see the backdrop. They say that its not easy to see the Jade Dragon Mountain clear up but well guess we were a little lucky that day :)

Performers will move around a little during the show. The row that you see in the above pictures are just right in front of the VIP. I think they are the best seats, nobody will be walking around during the show. There is no control, even when the show has started, you see people still streaming in and walking around looking for seats. It is really disruptive, i would enjoy the show more if they stop people from coming in and walking around when the show has started.

Some say its worth it, some say its not. So be prepared. 190RMB its pretty expensive and not forgetting another entrance fee to the park 80RMB. Please do keep the ticket to the entrance fee for the park. Get it back from your guide as it is also the the entrance fee to the Black Dragon Pool Park and some other sites too. For some sites you just pay a nominal fee as you already have the entrance fee ticket.

Lijiang Old Town

We are back from our 9 days trip to Yunnan! We spend 4 nights in Lijiang, 1 night in Tiger Leaping Gorge, 2 nights in Shangri La and 1 night in Kunming.

Although, we had a terrible experience with the local guide there (posted in the tripadvisor forum), we still enjoyed ourselves a lot. The scenery is breathtaking and we loved the pictures that we have taken. Now is the time to share our photos.

Our flight, China Eastern Airline was delayed for 3 hours!!! And because of that we missed our internal flight from Kunming to Lijiang. Lucky for us, they put us on the next available flight at no charge. We were suppose to be at Lijiang at 9.50am but it turn out to be around 3pm.

Our very first meal in Lijiang was at "A Ma Yi". Here, we enjoyed traditional Naxi Cuisine and local beer. Their local beers are very low in alcoholic content, not more than 4% but it still taste yummy! If i still remember clearly, i think we spend about 250RMB for dinner of six.

We tried so many things, bamboo rice, beef stew hotpot, pork rib hotpot, bbq fish and etc.

Lake Tekapo

We spend 2 nights in Lake Tekapo. We initially wanted to spend only 1 night here but the aftershocks in Christchurch had changed our plans. But it is easy to spend a few days here even though it is a really small town. The permanent residency here is only 315.

The town is small and consist of a small supermarket at the petrol station, a Chinese restaurant, a fish and chips shop, a char-grill bar, a Japanese restaurant and a pizza and pasta bar and restaurant.

We had chosen to stay at Tailor-made Hostel. It is a very cosy, quiet and clean place and has benches in the garden. We enjoyed just sitting out in the garden during the afternoons for drinks.

Another walk, Cowan Hill. An easy walk which took us approximately 1.5hrs.

On the second day, we did another trek. The Mount John trek, after the hike, you will be rewarded with a good view and a cup of good strong coffee at Astro Cafe. Amazingly, the coffee at the cafe is reasonably price being the only cafe up there and it offers a 360 degree panoramic view.

The trek was a little tiring, hence when we reach the top we were really glad that we have completed it. Of course, the easy way was to just drive to the top but well the workout was great!

We had a cup of Latte and Cappuccino for NZD $9, awesome view all around the cafe.

The lake is really beautiful with turquoise water. We just can't stop ourselves from snapping the photos. It always look so captivating regardless of the the time of the day.

The most famous church in New Zealand is found here, Church of the Good Shepherd. And thus it is the most photograph as well. There is a wonderful view from inside the church.

And now, we have come to the end of the trip. Oh did we mention, Lake Tekapo is also the best place to see the stars! So packed your bags, and get ready to plan for your trip to New Zealand.

We are sure that you will enjoy this place as much as we do. The natural scenery here is probably one of the best if not the best in the world! And do not forget the New Zealanders, they are the nicest people we have met too :)

As usual, upon arrival we waste no time and immediately start exploring. There are several treks in Wanaka and if you love trekking you will be spolited for choice. We did the easiest trek, the trek to Mount Iron. The trek will take 45mins to the summit and a return will be 1.5hrs.

As we were not driving we had to walk 20 mins from our place to the start of the trek.

Queenstown - Our 3rd and last day

We finally had time on our last day to do some walking around the town. We also took the gondola up on to Bob's peak to get a overview of the town. It was spectacular!

We regretted now having more days at Queenstown, it is really nice place. 3 days is too short.

One can opt to trek or take the gondola up the peak. We paid $25 for a return, the gondola is only a short trip up the peak. It's probably a little pricey but the views on the top is really out of the world!

We packed a picnic basket up, there were many tables available for you to enjoy your meal. We spend probably the entire afternoon at the peak.

Queenstown - Our 2nd day

Our second day in Queenstown was again spend on a day trip to Milford Sound. A full day trip with a short stop over at Te Anau for around 30 mins. The full day trip includes many stop overs at scenic points for photo taking. The bus driver and guide was awesome pointing out to us several great photo taking opportunities.

After several hours, we finally got to Milford Sound. We than transfer onto the cruise boat for a 1hr 40 mins cruise. On board the cruise, Coffee, Tea and Water were provided and lunch could be bought on board. Some cruises even came with a buffet lunch, but ours didn't come with it, but nevertheless we still enjoy our self tremendously. We were lucky that the weather was good as Milford Sound receive a lot of rain.

Queenstown

Early in the morning, we departed from Christchurch to Queenstown. A very short flight, which took only 30-40mins. A lot of time saved, as a bus would have taken approximately 6-7hours.

Once we got off the airplane, we were immediately greeted by a welcoming scenery, the backdrop is really nice. We got really excited and were definitely looking forward to the rest of the town.

It was really convenient getting into the town, shuttles, taxi and buses were located just outside the terminal. We opt for the bus option as it was the most economically and it stops directly at our motel. For those who are interested, http://www.connectabus.com/.

Our accommodation at Queenstown was wonderful! The room was clean, comfortable and thoughtful with heaters on the bed. The receptionist was very friendly too. A short distance to the city centre, about a 15mins walk. http://www.hurleys.co.nz/

Upon arrival, we immediately got ready to start our time in Queenstown. We had booked with Dart river jet Safaris for a day . Our Wilderness safaris included a jet boating, forest walk and 4WD. It was fantastic! http://www.dartriver.co.nz

After the earthquake, the city centre is closed as some of the buildings have been classified as unstable. We took some pictures of the devastation.

As we were only in Christchurch for half a day, leaving early next morning for Queens town. We spend our time strolling at Hagley Park and the botanical garden.

We were not sure what to expect flying long haul on a budget airline but we were surprise that the flight was really comfortable and enjoyable. We were provided 2 meals during our flight when we pre-booked it online. Each meals comes with a bottle of 350ml of mineral water.

We noticed that the flight were fully booked on both ways and the planes were bigger. The service render were good compare to other airlines.

Our Itinerary for Eastern Europe during Christmas and New Year Day 2011

Day 1 - Cesky Krumlov

We arrived really late at Cesky Krumlov, it was almost 11pm when we reach! It took a four hour bus ride to get us there and we were really lucky that our pension were willing to pick us up.

Day 2 - Cesky Krumlov

We spent this day going for a guided tour in the morning around the town and further exploring it on our own. This has got to be the most beautiful and picturesque town.

Day 3 - Vienna

It seems a little tricky to get to Vienna from Cesky Krumlov as the only known way, was to take a bus which was the common route. But during Winter the buses do not run as often. Hence, we decide to take the train and we realize that it was not only a quicker way but a cheaper way as well.

Day 4 - Vienna

We spent our time in Vienna going to Christmas Markets, visiting the Hofburg Palace, Opera and walking around the old town. This was not our first trip, but we still loved the place!

Day 5 - Vienna

Day 6 - Budapest

It was our very first time in Budapest, and we were not very sure whether the walking tours will still be conducted during Christmas but we found out that they still runs. Most shops were closed during Christmas though for about 2-3days, including fast food and supermarkets.

Day 7 - Budapest

It's Christmas Eve! And shops and trains are expected to stop running or have only limited service so do check with your hotel.We manage to still stroll at the Christmas Market till about noon.

We stayed in the Castle Quarter area, it is very quiet in the evening.

We visited the Prague Castle, Square and had a really good view of the city. The St Vitus Cathedral looks awesome too.

The old town is where all the action is, with the Astronomical clock and the Christmas market in the square it is really packed with tourist.

Our very last day in WA, we really enjoyed ourselves tremendously during our week long trip and we are glad that we complete the loop and are back in Perth. But at the same time, it is also sad that we have to go back home and this has to eventually come to an end.

Our flight will depart at 12.05am and we have been thinking how we intend to past our time after we check out from the hotel at 11.00am.

Hence, we decided get the one day pass that allows unlimited usage on buses and trains for a day till midnight (A$8.50/All zones/9-12-midnight). Some people might find the single pass useful as a single pass allows you 2 hours of travel within the zone, so long u board the trains before the time expire the ticket is still good.

We opt to travel along the Fremantle line stopping at Subiaco for some coffee, then to Cottesloe Beach follow by Fremantle for the weekend market and fish and chips!

Proceed to Subiaco,

A good strip of cafe and restaurants with a very big Woolworth Mart. And a new Fitness First Gym too!

Looks different from the usual? It is from Sweet Lips near the harbor! And we got a real deal A$12.60 for 2 plates of Fish and Chips, a promotion that the tourist map indicates.

Time for lunch! Its not the winner but it is a finalist and it still taste yummy because the batter is not as thick as the rest.

We visited the weekend market but didn't find anything that interest us hence we decide that since we still had some time why not chill out with a pint of Beer before heading back to the city to leave for the Airport.

That's the end of our trip!

Day 5- Pemberton

All our time will be spend at Pemberton today. A rough guide would be to follow Rod to feed the animals at 9.00am and then to the Gloucester Tree which is just a 10-15 mins wall from our farm and lastly, to visit some vineyards to try our the region famous Pinot Noir and White Wines.

One reason that we chose to stay at Pemberton Farm was because it was just a short walk to the National Park where you can find Gloucester Tree. If you stay further away, you will need to drive there and you would then have to pay for the entrance fee to the park which cost A$11 for a car.

Yes! I intend to climb it! And yes i know its 72 meters in height!

We walk from our chalet, through the vineyard just right beside us and into the national park. There were clear yellow makers along the way to guide you to Gloucester Tree.

After that workout, it is time to look for a nice place to have lunch. Kudos to my partner for allowing me to choice the vineyard the i will like to have lunch. I did my homework and found out the Hidden River Vineyard has one of the best food around and they have won several awards to prove just that!

Day 4- Denmark/Walpole/Pemberton

After 2 nights at Havana Villa, we are departing for Pemberton. Along the way, we intend to stop by Denmark which will take us about 40 mins to reach there.

Denmark, for its' post card perfect town, beautiful beach - Green pool and coastline William Bay.

The water was so freaking clear and calm that it really looks like an open air swimming pool. There were some people swimming and snorkeling, making it even more tempting for us to jump down.

Too bad, with no towels and swimsuits with us we just had to give it a missed!

Next Stop, Walpole- Valley of the Giant,

Valley of the Giant, entrance fee is at A$10 for adults but family pass is good value, it cost A$25 and it is for 2 adults and 2 children.

At the Ancient tree walk,

The admission will include a walk on the suspension bridge and also one along the ancient trees. With one admission you can repeat the walk as many times as you wish and as long as you like.

And now after stopping at Walpole, its a serious 2 1/2 hour drive to get to Pemberton. We sure hope that we can get there before the sun starts to set.

It's Autumn!

A little about our accommodation at Pemberton, it called Pemberton Farm Chalet and the place consist of about 8 chalets and they are all on top of the hill with perfect view. A really great price for what you are getting. The host, Mr Rod Morris, very friendly and approachable. The place is quiet and serene. It really relax you and helps to take any worries away. The farm animals are just right in-front of you and they do hang around when you are at the front porch.

Day 3- Albany

Today, we intend to explore the great south the town of Albany. We are interested to see the rugged coastline of Torndirrup National Park for its natural attractions.

From our chalet to the National Park, it took us about 10 mins drive.

The Gap and the Natural Bridge are close together. On my left it will lead you to the Gap which i think is totally awesome and beautiful, not to be missed and on the right it leads you to the Natural Bridge, a granite formation in the shape of a bridge.

Apparently, we heard that there are cases of people who have fallen in before as the waves are very powerful so when it hits the rocks there will be a strong gust of sea water.

Natural Bridge

Near the bridge, a plaque commemorate a group of fishermen;Paddy Hart, Keith Richardson, crew of whale-chaser "Cheynes II" and John Bell who save the life of a young boy, Stephen Mattews who fell into the water on 14th March 1978.

Next, we proceed to Salmon Holes,

From July - Jan, Salmons can be seen living along the coast.

We visited this place in the morning, and can see that its a popular place for fishing. And, on the same day in the evening we heard from the news that someone fell into the waters and lost his life while fishing as he was standing on the cliff and the huge wave hit him.

Next Stop, Frenchman Bay,

Frenchman bay is located very close to the Whale World, it showcase everything you need to know about whale-chaser and the trade.

Next stop, Blow Holes,

Couldn't really get the pics to show the water being blown from in between the rocks. The trek to the blow holes is about 900 meters and whether it will blow will depend on the waves. We will lucky to see it but just couldn't capture it on our camera.

We spent half a day visiting the National Park, and proceeded back to our chalet for lunch after buying a bottle of wine, sandwich and strawberries from the town.

Yes, I am very very happy to be here! Spoilt for choice!

While zipping around the town, we bump into the quirky granite Dog Rock.

Voila! The outcome of our lunch purchase! Satisfaction Factor: 8/10 (Approx: A$22 for 2pax including the bottle of wine)

After our lunch, we continue our sightseeing and proceed to walk the Middleton Beach Boardwalk Trail- a 3Km trail that has sensational views of King George Sound.

We manage to find some time to stroll around the town before the sunset. Daylight is very short, it starts to turn down from 4.00pm onwards and by 5.30pm is dark.

A pleasant 5 hours drive to get to Albany, along the Albany highway (Approx 416Km). Our route will bring us to Williams for a break after about 1 1/2hr of driving and than to Mount Baker followed by another remaining 40 mins drive to reach Albany.

Our 7 day trip to Perth consist of spending 2 nights in Perth, 2 nights in Albany and 2 nights at Pemberton. We did this self drive with a small but very efficient 1.8L Toyota. We had plenty of full and enjoyed ourselves tremendously.

It is finally coming to an end, we are going to fly back soon. We realise that we should have come here early. The people here are extremely polite and helpful even though we don't speak their language they are still willing to help us out if we need them. The country is clean, beautiful and scenary breath-taking. Let's hope that we will soon be back again. Thank you for making this a memorable and enjoyable trip for us.

Day 11- Nara

We are leaving for Osaka, and soon it will be the end of our trip. We will dropping by to Nara, visiting nara-koen park, Todaji temple, Kofuku-ju temple, Kasuga Taisha shrine and the countless number of deers roaming around.

We were really lucky again, we got to see Mt Fuji on the train! Initially, when we didn't get to see it in Hakone because of the bad weather we were really disappointed but now we did! And on our very first time to Japan! The photo was taken while passing through Hakone.

This sign just outside the train station of Nara points to you all the information you will need to know. All attractions within walking distance.

But before we head out, we had to have our lunch. This lunch cost us probably around 600-700 yen for 2 person. It is cheap, and the customers are all locals. So if you dine where the locals dine you get to strtech your dollar!

They are all around the park, and you can buy deer biscuits to feed them its around 150yen.

Day 10 -Tokyo

Today, is the 2nd day of the New year and there are 2 things that we intend to do today:

Fukubukuro (Lucky Bag)- Big bargains in these bags, the items inside these bags are worth 2-3times the price you paid.
The special appearance by the Emperor which only happens twice a year, today and on his birthday. (10.10am, 11, 11.50, 12.40, 1.30, 2.30 and 3.20pm)

Finally, they appear! Everyone was cheering and shouting "Banzai! Banzai!"

The Emperor appear for about 2 mins and gave a speech.

DAY 9-Tokyo

Today, we will explore the old Tokyo by starting at Asakusa. We will visit the Sensoji Temple (aka kannon temple) and the nearby shopping street called Nakamise where souvenirs and local traditional snacks are sold.

It is very crowded at the temple today, it seems that everyone in Tokyo are all here. It feels like a carnival as there are many rows of shop set up to sell gifts and food. Some are items that may supposedly bring you better luck for the New Tiger Year.

Although, it may be crowded but it a orderly chaos. If you know what i mean, the Japanese are so well mannered.

Look at the number of food stands here, so much food and they all look so yummy.

Guess, what are they doing? They are making Mochi!

After all that chaos, we finally found a small Kiosk selling Ramen. It is really interesting, you select your order at the vending machine, make payment and wait for your receipt. Pass the receipt to the service staff to exchange for your noodle.

Next, we proceed to Odaiba (man-made Island) where we will be able to see the Fuji-Tv Building and walk on the Rainbow Bridge. We didn't know that everything look so futuristic on the island!

This is the Rainbow bridge, we actually decided to walk on the bridge to get on to the island instead of take the train. It was took us about 40 mins to reach there and it is free.

We actually manage to catch a glimpse of the sunset Mt Fuji. We saw a huge group of people standing around with their camera phone, and when we look closer we realise that mount Fuji was there. It is never easily to see it, but i guess we were very lucky.

Day 8- Hakone/Tokyo

This morning, we will be checking out of the hotel and before we do that we just had to visit the Onsen again! It feels really nice, with the cool cold breeze and the hot spring water it is really relaxing. We love open air Onsen!

There are many things that one can do at Hakone but you will need at least 2 days to see everything. As we did'nt had much time we just choose to cruise on the lake Ashi. Btw, we did'nt really enjoy the cruise, feel that it was a little too expensive. It just go around half the lake that all.But if you were to get the Hakone Pass, i am sure it will be alot more fun and affordable.

Take the Hakone Ropeway to get views of Mt Fuji and to visit Owakudani (crater); you can boiled eggs at the hot water and apparently it will turn black! Suppose to make you leave longer too.

Includes trains and bus rides too.

Time to depart for Tokyo, and as today is the New Year Eve many Japanese will be doing the hatsumode- visiting temples and shrines.

Once we arrive at Tokyo, we immediately check into our hostel and proceed to visit Japan was famous Shinto shrine- Meji Shrine. There be alot of people lining up to pray at the temple especially before midnight. Its tradition is pretty much the same at chinese, to visit the temple on the day New year day to get some good luck for the next year.

It is located near to Harajuku Station and of course also famous for its cosplay but it is better to visit it on sunday. But we still manage to see some while walking through the streets and also visit the the biggest Daiso shop (100yen shop).

Meji Shrine, it is really beautiful with all the lanterns light up all the way into the shrine.

We were there around 10 pm and there were some Japanese already there wishing for good luck for the next year by throwing coins over the barrier. We spoke to a Japanese journalist and he told us that the crowd will get larger and larger ever hour.

We saw a huge crowd just opposite the Meiji Shrine and soon realise the Ayumi Hamazaki was having a concert!

Day 7- Hakone/Mt Fuji/ Lake Ashi

Depart for scenic Hakone, part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. It is a collection of villages in the mountains near Mt Fuji.

Our pick-up from our hotel Prince Hakone was at 4 pm at Odawara Station, we manage to get a very good deal on their website for approximately $85 for a night. Prince Hakone is located right at Lake Ashi and it is the best place to view Mt Fuji.

The station was so crowded with Japanese, Hakone is also one of their favourite destination for holiday.

We arrived from Hiroshima at Odawara Station around 3pm and hence we had some time to walk around before our pick up. There is a mall right outside the station so we took the opportunity shop a little. Mainly a food mall, with supermarket and foodcourts.

As we had not taken our lunch, we bought some bento back to the hotel. Most of the time will be spent in the hotel and it's compound as there is nothing outside the hotel. What we are looking forward to is the hot spring!

After a 45mins ride, we finally reach our Hotel.

We immediately change and went to the hot spring, as we were so tired after travelling for almost the whole day. It is our first experience to have such pampering, the hotel provides you with a set of sleep wear, a set of day wear for walking around the hotel and a coat for you if your are going outdoor. You practically don't have to bring any clothes! And everyone in the hotel dresses the same attire!

This is the attire that we were provided, and yes it includes the outdoor slippers as well!

After the hot spring, it is good to relax back at our rooms and have a good night sleep. The hotel is very proud of their mattress because it is specially make for them by sealy.

If it is your first time going to an Onsen (hot bath) you may be feeling a little intimidated and lost at what you should do, these are the steps:

Put your slippers and clothes away in the locker or basket provided
Take the small towel that they provide you into the bath area
At the bath area, there are usually small cubicles for you to sit and bath yourself. You should be facing the wall while showering. Shampoo, conditioner and shower foam are provided.
After you have wash yourself clean, wipe your self dry with the small towel.
Proceed to the Onsen, at this point it is really up to you. You may walk to the Onsen without covering yourself or you may hold the small towel in a vertical manner that will nicely cover the front of your body.
Once you are inside the Onsen and if you are comfortable you may want to bundle up your hair with the towel.
When you are ready to leave, proceed back to the bath area and clean your self again before going into the changing room.
Everything is provided at the changing room, there will be dressing table filled with body lotion, toner,moisturiser, hair dryer and brushes.
You do need to bring anything to the Onsen except for your self. just remember not to dirty the water so dun put on any hair lotion before going down to the Onsen.
Also note that if you have tattoo, you are not allow to go into the Onsen.

Day 6- Takayama

Our 6 tatami mat room, not luxurious but definately a traditional experience.

Takayama is famous for its Sake, and after visiting several brewery and sake tasting we decide that this was really good. Since, we will be staying at our rokyokan most of time it will be good to just relax over sake. (1350yen)

Althought, we had a really small room, but look at our views! I only wish that it had been snowing. Apparently it started snowing 2 days after we left Takayama!

The whole experience of visiting this place and staying a night at the royaoan is truly enjoyable. The royokan was a small family run business and the service is truly good. The food was delicious and hot bath was cosy. We really love this place and hope that we will one day be able to come back again.

Day 5- Kyoto / Hiroshima/ Miyajima Island

We are leaving for Hiroshima!

Bullet train! Fast, smooth, clean and always on time!

Arrival at JR Miyajima Train Station, and to get to Miyajima Island we have to wait for a ferry transfer. As we were holding to JR passess, this ferry is free!

Miyajima is most famous for its "Itsukushima Jinga Shrine", the large wooden Torii gates rise 53 feet out of water.

On the island, you get to see deer roaming around and they are not shy animals. Small quiet and dainty town which i suppose not much activity goes on except from arriving tourist visiting the shrine.

Lunch Time! Its pretty funny, we didn't speak japanese hence we just started pointing to the pictures on the display window to get what we wanted. When at Miyajima, do try their oyster and boiled eel. They are popular here.

Didn't get a photo of the oyster rice cause we were so hungry we forgot! But here's the boiled eel rice.
This Dome was what was left after the atomic bomb was drop and it is the only surviving building to reflect the devastation of the destruction. One can really imagine the impact of the bomb, all else were destroyed.

Do visit the Peace Memorial Muesum and the park, it really show case the effects of the bombing and how destructive it is. The fee is just 50yen to visit the Muesum, it is probably going to be the most inexpensive entrance fee that you will pay in Japan. This is one of our main highlight, and a must for all visitor going to Hiroshima.

Hiroshima is pretty much a shopping haven too, with rows and rows of shops it seems to be endless. Before we leave Hiroshima, we had to try their famous Okonomiyaki!

Day 4- Kyoto

We had actually intended to use day 4 for a day trip to Nara, but with so much things to see and do we just decided to spent the last day at Kyoto just wandering around, people watching and soaking in the beautiful surroundings.

And of course, we end the night walking at Gion District waiting to catch a glimpse of the Geisha. We were really luck to be able to see them. No photos were taken as we didn't want to appear rude. Don't miss this place, it's worth a walk in the evening but the restaurants are a little pricey

Day 2- Kyoto (Arashiyama Area)

The above is a picture of our hostel, K-House@ Kyoto and the old Japanese house just opposite our hostel. It is old and new Japan sharing the same street!

After a 2hr day trip from Kyoto to Himeiji yesterday, we decide that for today we shall be having a full day sightseeing around Kyoto. One good thing to get is a 1 day bus pass which will allow you unlimited rides on the bus and its easy to navigate the bus system.

First-Stop: Around and at Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The path from the temple is lively with food stands, souvenirs shops and Japanese sweets for you to savour.

Second-Stop: Nishiki Market

After the temple tour for half the day, we head off to Nishiki Market for lunch.

Third-Stop: Golden Pavillion - Kinkakuji Temple,

Day1:Kyoto/Himeiji

As we have bought the 1 Day Kansai Pass to travel to Kyoto, we try to maximize the pass by immediately proceeding to Himeiji for a day trip.

The main site that we were coming to see was the famous national treasure and UNESCO site which is the the Himeiji castle. The site can be easily reach by walking or by bike. One can borrow a bike from the tourist office for free to ride around Himeiji but be early as there are limited bikes.

One good thing to note is that the castle was never before destroy by war or natural disaster. Its really still looks very good today.

Day 1- Arriving at Osaka 24th Dec

Upon arriving at Osaka, we took a airport express train (Kansai Pass) to Kyoto which took us about 75mins. It was easy and although we arrive at 7am in the morning it was pretty smooth.

You can see we practically own the whole cabin!

The Station is really a very amazing infrastructure! There are plenty of restaurants and food courts. At the very top of the station is a ariel view of the city and its Free!

On our way to the hostel, we could not resist stopping at the vending machine to try out one of their Japanese Coffee.

Japan Winter Trip- Dec 2009

We were so happy that we found time to get away and spend our Christmas and New Year away from home last year. We were also lucky to find a irresistible deal that we just had to go.

In the end, we planned a 13 day trip covering mainly central Japan, at the same time trying to keep within our budget. The main worry that we had for this trip was that we were traveling during their New Year, which was a major occasion. The results was a unforgettable trip, and to those who have not been there before we strongly urge you to visit it.

Nuwara Eilya

Nuwara is our favorite destination in Sri Lanka, it is has many tea plantation and english houses.

One of the most scenic way to see this place was to travel by the train which will bring you along the hilly plantation. So Mr Jaya will drive us to the train station to board the train. He will then drive to meet us at the Nuwara to pick us up.

Breakfast at the hotel was sumptuous.

We sat in the first class cabin. which is called the observation cabin, with windows all around.

After the scenic ride, we met up with our driver and continue driving along the hilly roads. The train ride is something not to be missed, its one of our major highlight. We will loved to do it again if we visit!

When we reach the the town, we couldn't help but thought we were in England. The weather was a little wet and cold too. U really feel like you are in a different place, i believe you could take the pictures here and tell your friends you are in England and they probably would still believe you.

A trip to Nuwara Eilya will not be complete if one does not take the time to visit the tea plantations.

A tour around the factory to understand how tea are made and why the teas leave are better than the rest.

This is part of the factory that makes "Mackwood Tea" I later learned and realized that this tea is actually sold at Sheraton Singapore.

After the tour, a pot of complimentary tea is given. Its taste and smell very nice. And the the view while sipping the tea at the garden is great.

We left Nuwara and continue our way back to Negomo. We are almost at the end of our itinerary and will be departing for the airport from Negomo.

Before we leave Sri Lanka, we had to experience the authentic ayurveda treatment. Before the treatment is selected a resident doctor will do a check up first and than diagnose the treatment that is suitable for you.

Shirodhara (Head Oil bath), a small pot of oil above the head and the oil slowly drips onto the forehead also known as the third eye. It is said to calm the central nervous system and to relax trap energy.

Although, it is sad to be leaving the place, but i am glad that i came and learnt that this place is truly interesting. It may appear to some people to be a little dangerous because of the fights in certain parts of of Sri Lanka but generally tourist attractions and routes are safe.

The cultural experience and the people really make this trip very enjoyable, and i do hope to return soon too. Probably to do a different route this time, spending more time at the beaches along the south and visit the Yala National Park.

Today, we proceed to Kandy the last royal capital. The most famous site here is the Temple of the Tooth, where one of the Buddha's tooth is kept. We didn't visit this site as it was not our area of interest, we prefer to enjoyed the sights of the city watching the Sri Lankans going about in their daily life chores.

And probably because we are also from Asia thus many of their temples are very similar to ours.

Mr Jaya was very kind to take time to show us the different types of local food. At this stop, we try "Curd" which is fermented milk, a little like yogurt but thicker not the usual smooth creamy texture. It is mix with honey to sweeten it.

Sigiriya/ Dambulla

Today, Mr Jaya will bring us to the famous Sigiriya- Lion Rock one of the seven World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. It is actually a fortress and a palace, and it is really amazing to see it!

Habarana

Our driver Mr Jaya, will drive us to our first location Habarana and we have been told that during the drive we will get to see many sights and scenery. We our on personal driver and guide, we get to have all the attention and didn't had to wait around for others unlike if you were to travel in a group.

Mr Jaya, spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable too. He used to be a teacher but has turn to being a tour guide.

Upon arrival, we checked into our accommodation located along the beach for a rest. As we arrived pretty late we didn't start our sightseeing. It was just for a night to rest before we head out to Habarana the next morning.

Our last stop before heading home. Vietnam, to see another UNESCO World heritage Site the famous Halong Bay.

Halong Bay, we stayed on a 3 day 2 night package on the boats which includes all meals and trips to the caves and a canoe trip around the bay. We had 2 to a room. Basic, but was comfy.

Laos- Luang Prabang

Seeing that that we were so near Laos, we decide that we should pop by Laos. We could really decide which part of Laos we wanted and eventually decided on Luang Prabang, a World UNESCO Heritage City. It is also said that, it is the most beautiful place to see the Mekong River.

Arrival at the Laos Airport, they ask what was i holding and they ask is it a vase? i say yes. It is actually the Shisha i bought from Egypt.

Eqypt-Luxor

Our next stop is Luxor, there are so many great sites to visit at Luxor. The West bank consist of the Valley of the Kings/Queens. We ended up in Happy Hostel, highly rated by Lonely Planet and hostelworld. The owner was really friendly initially, but after we told him that we are checking out 1 day earlier, his attitude changed! At the hostel we sign up for a tour to the valley of the King. You pay lesser for the tour if there are more people going. We manage to rope in a French couples to join us......who soon became our travelling companion for the rest of our trip in Egypt.

Together with Gayle and Vincent we visited The Temple Karnak, Deiral-Bahri (Hatshepsut) and Medinat Habu (Ramses III). we got along fine and decide that we should also travel together to Hurgarda too.

Egypt-Aswan

We travelled almost the whole of Egypt to Abu Simbel to see The Great Temple of Ramses II.

First, to get to Aswan, we got a night sleeping train, that reached at 5am the next morning. As all cabins are double, you will be assign one that is shared by the same sex. Egypt is an islamic country hence they do not allow opposite sex to share the same cabin.

We stayed at Keylany Hotel, where they also arrange our trip to Abu Simbel. Apparently, going to Abu Simbel requires a police convoy and it will take us 2 1/2hrs to get there. We depart with the convoy at 4 am in the morning.

The temple at Abu Simbel II is truly Amazing! Just like the pyramid, its really a sight to behold. Its really worth the effort traveling the whole of Egypt to see it before your eyes!

Egypt-Cairo

Amazing, we ended up in Egypt! We had initially wanted to fly to Vietnam and make our way home but decide that we should drop by Egypt since we are able to get a cheap flight, and there was a typhoon in Vietnam. That is the great thing of traveling with no time line, you can choose to go any place you want!

Upon arrival at, we took a public bus to the city of cairo which is about 1 hr away. Bus were pretty run down and dirty but it was the cheapest way to travel. Finding the bus were a little tough too, as numbers were in Arabic. Luckily, we had purchase a guide book in Athens.

I thought Athens was bad but when i reach Cairo it was worst! i have never in my months of traveling, felt that i will like to leave the place immediately. Touts were everywhere, guidebooks warns us about the extent but being here it was so much more real and intense. You had to be really on your guard 24/7. A person could easily break down with the constant harassment, dusty roads, blazing hot weather and dirty crowded buildings.

Traffic was Bad, Bad, Bad....i thought i have seen it all in Bangkok but this was way worst. Nobody heeds the traffic lights and lanes are insignificant here. A 3 lane road can become a 5-6 lane road. One cannot miss the constant honking of the cars, they seems to do it not to warn of danger but more of a pleasure or habit. Scams are countless here and be prepare to be overcharge by ridiculous price.

Enough say about Cairo but going to see the pyramid at the Giza was great. It was amazing to be standing infront of one after seeing them on TV. You really start to wonder looking at one how was it done and why were they build in this shape.

We also manage to climb into the red pyramid at Dashur to have a look inside. Although, the tomb was already looted, it was still incredible descending along the long dark stuffy tunnel to get into the tomb.
